Gabriele Hufschmidt, Ph.D. (VU Wellington)

Werdegang

Im Jahr 2002 habe ich mein Geographie-Studium (Diplom) an der Universität Bonn abgeschlossen und war im Anschluss für zwei Jahre im Rahmen eines DFG-Forschungsprojekts als Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Geographischen Institut in Bonn tätig.

In den Jahren 2004 bis 2008 habe ich an der Victoria University of Wellington bei Prof. Mike Crozier, Fachbereich Geographie, promoviert. Der Schwerpunkt der Dissertation lag in der Analyse der zeitlichen Variabilität des Risikos, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung konzeptioneller und methodischer Aspekte mit Blick auf Naturgefahr, Vulnerabilität und Resilienz.

Parallel zur Promotion habe ich als Assistant Lecturer in diesem Themengebiet Lehrveranstaltungen durchgeführt.

Zurück in Deutschland war ich von August 2009 bis Oktober 2010 als Referentin bei der Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK) in Bonn für das Projekt Audit "Internationalisierung der Hochschulen" zuständig. Das Audit ist ein Beratungsprojekt für die Mitgliedshochschulen der HRK, die ihre internationale Strategie und ihr internationales Profil (weiter-)entwicklen möchten (www.audit-international.hrk.de).

Seit November 2010 bin ich als Wissenschaftliche Koordinatorin des Masterstudiengangs "Katastrophenvorsorge und -management" (KaVoMa) an der Universität Bonn tätig. KaVoMa wird in Kooperation mit dem Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (BBK) angeboten und kann berufsbegleitend studiert werden (www.kavoma.de). Als Wissenschaftliche Koordinatorin bin ich hauptsächlich für die Studiengangsentwicklung und -außendarstellung zuständig.

Curriculum vitae

I completed my degree in Geography at the University of Bonn in 2002. I continued working at the Geography Department in Bonn as a research fellow. This position was part of a research project funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). 

Between 2004 and 2008 I was a doctoral student at the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington, with Prof. Mike Crozier as my supervisor. The focus of the dissertation was on the evolution of risk, in particular on conceptual and methodological approaches towards illustrating the temporal variability of natural hazards, vulnerability and resilience.

While working on my dissertation I was an assistant lecturer, offering courses on topics within the field of risk. 

Once I returned to Germany, I took on the position as a project manager at the German Rectors' Confernce (HRK) in Bonn. I worked in a team conducting the audit "Internationalisation of Higher Education Institutions", which aims to support Higher Eduction Institutions to develop an international strategy and profile (www.audit-international.hrk.de).

In November 2010 I accepted the appointment as the scientifc coordinator for the Master programme "Disaster Management and Risk Governance" (KaVoMa). KaVoMa is offered in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Civil Defence and is for students with previous professional experience to specialise in this field (www.kavoma.de). In my role as scientific coordinator my primary responsibilities are curriculum developement and public relations.
